Opportunities From: Kindness Farm

Volunteer: Mindful Garden Practice Volunteer Hours

Mindful Garden Practice is an invitation to slow down and connect more deeply with the land through gentle, intentional presence. We’ll start with a guided mindfulness practice to help us arrive in our bodies and attune to the land. From there, we’ll move together in mostly shared silence, engaging in simple garden and farm tending tasks with care and intention. This mindful pace offers space to notice the rhythms of stillness and movement and to experience the practice of tending land in community.

Farm Leader: Jayanika Lawrence

Jayanika Lawrence works at the intersections of food systems, environmental education, and community healing. Jayanika brings a deep commitment to listening, collective care, and co-creating spaces rooted in dignity, belonging, and joy.

Volunteer: Volunteer Hours

Get your hands dirty. Feed your community. Find your people.

Kindness Farm is a living, breathing green space in SE Portland where neighbors come together to grow food, tend land, and build community. Every volunteer hour here produces real food for families experiencing food insecurity – and real connection and learning for everyone who shows up.

What will we be doing?

There's lots to do at the farm! Some frequent tasks we work on include seeding, planting, harvesting, weeding, wood-chipping, clearing new areas, and much more!

Any skill and physical ability level is absolutely welcome here. We are happy to work with any limitations you may have.

We have gloves, shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows, and loppers available for volunteers to use!

Arrival Instructions

An educator will be there between 10-15 minutes before the shift, please wait for the leader at the check in station before coming up to the main area. If you can't find anyone, please call (503) 558-5453.

** We generally ask all volunteers to arrive at the same start time, however, you can stay for however long you'd like! If you only have an hour to volunteer that's ok too! If you do need to arrive later, you can still register, but please text us at (503) 558-5453 and let us know!

What should you bring?

• Water!
• Weather / outdoor appropriate, warm, comfortable clothing and shoes you don't mind getting dirty. In the rainy season, the farm can be muddy, and sometimes it might also rain, so come prepared! Layers are great!
• We recommend closed-toed shoes and long sleeve shirts.
• Gardening gloves (though we have plenty at the farm if you don't have any!)
• Knee pads for kneeling if needed (we have a few of these at the farm as well!)
• A snack or meal if you'd like! The farm is a great place to eat!
• Yourself, a family member, a friend! :-)
