Join UTOPIA PDX + KALO + Kindness Farm to celebrate and exchange information on QTPI culture and farming practices!
Everyone is welcome to participate, learn, and exchange.
What will we be doing?
- We all tackle necessary farm tasks (planting, seeding, weeding etc.) while listening to music from various Pacific Island areas
- There will be snacks, tea, and coffee
- Kindness Farm can give a little info on their farming practices and community programs
- There will be a break half way through the work, during this break, someone from UTOPIA and someone from KALO will give a short presentation on some aspects of queer PI culture and PI farming practices
- We end with more snacks and then clean up!
We have gloves, shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows, and loppers available for volunteers to use!
We have tasks for all skill and physical ability levels and are happy to work with any challenges or limitations you may have!
** We generally ask all volunteers to arrive at the same start time, however, you can stay for however long you'd like! If you only have an hour to volunteer that's ok too! If you do need to arrive later, you can still register, but please text us at (503) 558-5453 and let us know!
What should you bring?
• Water!
• Weather / outdoor appropriate, warm, comfortable clothing and shoes you don't mind getting dirty. In the rainy season, the farm can be muddy, and sometimes it might also rain, so come prepared! Layers are great!
• We recommend closed-toed shoes and long sleeve shirts.
• Gardening gloves (though we have plenty at the farm if you don't have any!)
• Knee pads for kneeling if needed (we have a few of these at the farm as well!)
• A snack if you'd like!
• Yourself, a family member, a friend! :-)
Please park on the farm side of the street anywhere up or down the street - lots of parking is usually available. Do NOT park on the grass across the street from the farm. This is important for safety vehicles to pass through. We reserve 2 driveway parking spots (in the gravel, on the right) for folks with accessibility needs. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions. Thank you!
You'll see a Kindness Farm sign by the mailbox. Head to the back of the property, under the carport, and past the house (that's where the farm is!), and follow the woodchip path until you see the high tunnel (green house).
